About the project

The British Airways (BA) Fleet Support Unit (FSU) is located on the BA West Operations Base to the north of the London Heathrow (LHR) southern runway and to the east of Terminal 2B where short haul minor work is done.

It is a square building approximately 95m by 95m with full width folding hangar doors providing dual aircraft access from both the north and south elevations. The hangar doors were installed as part of the original hangar construction in 1970/71 and have now reached end of end-of-life.

In conjunction with Arup, we are providing Project Management services for this multi-million-pound project.

The works include the following:

  • Decommissioning of existing and installation of a new containerised above ground diesel fueling facility.
  • Installation of new fixed electrical ground power systems in service pits.
  • FSU Hangar Door Replacement work comprising; removal of the existing concertina hangar doors, control panels, guide tracks and rails with new power operated, ten leaf, horizontally sliding door sets on both north and south sides of the hangar.
