ChandlerKBS was commissioned to provide services for the wind farm at Coomacheo in County Cork with Kennedys Solicitors representing the insurers Royal Sun Alliance.
Following completion of the wind farm comprising eighteen 2.3 megawatt wind turbines, a third party review identified the wind turbine foundations had deteriorated and there were apparent deficiencies in the original design. The approved solution was to enclose each base with a new reinforced concrete slab poured in ring-shaped sections linked to the existing base by post-tensioned circumferential tendons.
This commission led onto similar commissions at two other sites, Bindoo in County Cavan containing 32 wind turbines and Bessy Bell in County Tyrone containing 6 wind turbines.
