About the project
ChandlerKBS was commissioned to provide pre and post contract project management services for this project.
The project involves the construction of a new £13 million visitor centre including 5km of new footpath around Llanishen and Lisvane reservoirs. Located within Cardiff, the reservoirs were built in the 1800s and hold significant historical value. These reservoirs have since been refilled to accommodate a wide range of water sports.
This new tourist destination opened for business in the summer of 2023. The two-story visitor facility includes elements to strengthen its green credentials and lessen its carbon impact in addition to providing breathtaking views over the reservoirs. This consists of a sizable photovoltaic (PV) solar installation on the roof, a rain garden to filter and attenuate rainfall, and a sustainable drainage system with subterranean drainage space.
The reopening of Lisvane and Llanishen Reservoirs has added a fifth site to Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water Adventures portfolio of visitor attractions across Wales. The other destinations include Llys-y-Frân in Pembrokeshire, Elan Valley in Powys, Llyn Brenig in Denbighshire and Llandegfedd Lake in Monmouthshire.
