About the project

Pengarnddu Service Reservoir plays an integral part in supplying fresh, clean water to people living in South Wales. To ensure the continued provision of first-class drinking water, the client proposed a new £9 million investment to supplement existing water storage on the site.

The works involved the construction of a new twin cell 9 megalitre service reservoir on land adjacent to the existing service reservoir, and included:

  • Constructing a partially buried service reservoir of 61m x 50m within the existing site.
  • Provision of new pipework to connect the new reservoir into the existing water supply network.
  • Construction of a valve house to provide operational access to supply pipework and valves.
  • Provision of an associated control and telemetry systems and integrated located into the existing remote system.
  • Reinstatement of the land around the new reservoir to mirror the grassland of the existing site.

The completion of the scheme has resulted in significant resilience within the system and safeguarding the supply of drinking water to South Wales.
