About the project

The A31 route transports in excess of 17,000 vehicles per day, and links the south west area of Northern Ireland to the north east, and connects towns including Dungannon, Omagh and Cookstown to Ballymena and Coleraine.

With no viable alternative route and with 12 schools in Magherafelt high volumes of traffic pass through the town daily which caused significant levels of congestion, particularly at rush hour times.

This project involved the off-line construction of 5.9km of 2+1 carriageway bypassing the town of Magherafelt, from the existing Castledawson roundabout to a newly constructed roundabout on the Moneymore Road. Other works included four roundabouts, twenty three structures including accommodation bridges, underbridges, culverts and flood connectors.

ChandlerKBS provided a range of services including cost planning and optioneering, risk management, procurement advice and construction phase cost management.
