About the project

The aim of the Church Village Bypass scheme was to relieve traffic congestion between Talbot Green and Pontypridd, (South Wales) and increase activity in the local economy.

The 7km of single carriageway included three roundabouts and one traffic signal controlled junction. Other works included two road bridges, three footbridges, a cattle creep, nine major culverts and a pedestrian underpass.  The scheme also included the construction of the Church Village Community Route, part of the National Cycle Network, this traffic free path runs alongside the bypass and accommodates both walkers and cyclists.

Advanced works were undertaken along the route to mitigate environmental impacts including dormice and great-crested newt habitat sites. In addition, 300,000 tyres that were buried at the site were excavated, baled and reused as elements of new gravity retaining walls.

ChandlerKBS provided procurement services, pre-contract cost management and construction phase cost management services.
