About the project

This project involved upgrading junction 12 of the M40 in Warwickshire which often experienced queues forming on the southbound hard shoulder during peak hours. The improvements aimed to enhance safety, reduce congestion and improve journey times, as well as support economic growth in the area.

The works included:

  • Converting the existing Gaydon Road overbridge from two to three lanes to increase capacity.
  • Providing two new signal controlled junctions.
  • Providing an improved diverge slip road to improve vehicle flow off the M40 and providing additional queueing capacity.
  • Improve the existing merge slip road alignment.
  • Retain and connect the existing northbound slip roads to the new traffic signal junction.
  • Connect Castle Farm access directly to the signalised junction.
