About the project

The works comprise the construction of a new single platform station on the existing single, bidirectional Cambrian line between Borth and Aberystwyth, in mid-Wales. The works included track alterations, a 79-space car park with modal interchange and active travel facilities, a new access road and connection to the trunk road network. As the site was situated in a flood plain, significant optioneering and engagement was required with Ceredigion County Council and Natural Resources Wales to obtain planning consent.

The project team included project and cost management consultants and procurement specialists. The new platform construction was successfully completed under a rail blockade in Q4 2019. Construction of the remaining works commenced in Q1 2020 and was completed in Q4 2020 with the station opening in Q1 2021.

Bow Street Station is the first new station to be opened by Transport for Wales, and the second station in Wales to have successfully achieved funding from the Department for Transport New Stations Fund 2, with both schemes having been led by ChandlerKBS.

Client Testimonial

“As project sponsor for Bow Street Station, it is fantastic to see the station open and operational. It is a positive example of the strong collaborative working between all parties that has ensured successful delivery despite the challenges of the Covid pandemic during 2020. I would like to thank and congratulate all those that have made this happen, particularly the TfW project management team.”
