About the project
ChandlerKBS worked with Mott MacDonald in the completion of this comprehensive feasibility study. This essential engineering programme will see a major refurbishment of the existing rail infrastructure in Belfast. It represents a major capital investment by the Department for Infrastructure and is essential to maintain high safety standards and operational performance.
The area covered by this commission was between signal CL06, located approximately 320m south of Lanyon Place Station (Central Station), and the 0-mile post located approximately 140m north of Yorkgate Station, and includes a 375m long section where the track diverges at Lagan Junction heading north-east towards Bangor.
As one of the busiest sections on the network it has significant strategic importance as the gateway to Belfast from the Derry~Londonderry, Larne and Bangor lines. The works, across eight zones, were phased from 2019 to 2027/8. ChandlerKBS has subsequently provided project cost management services on the first two projects on the Central Area Track Renewal programme to progress to construction, namely Lagan Junction S&C Renewal and Lagan Junction to Yorkgate.
